Greenvale Acres has a History; read about our house
A warm welcome to our PEI century home, boasts Island hospitality alongside peace and tranquillity. Your stay on our Island wouldn't be complete unless we share our home and friendly atmosphere from Greenvale Acres B and B.
Let me take you back a few years, 1965 in fact: Do you remember the sitcom Green Acres, which was derived from the show Beverly Hillbillies with Buddy Ebsen? How about Petticoat Junction: "Come ride a little train as it's rollin' down the track to the Junction, Petticoat Junction." Although we don't have a wood burning stove in our kitchen and our house doesn't look anything like the Shady Rest Hotel, we guarantee you a warm welcome and a pleasant stay here at Greenvale Acres Bed and Breakfast. Visit other interesting links to these sitcoms and then visit our themed guest rooms
Beverly Hills, Green Acres, and Petticoat Junction.

History of Our House
- 1860
- Built as the Proudfoot Farm.
- 1900
- The property was bought to use as plantation a for a seed Company called R.E. White & Son, owners were Russel and Kenneth White. Story: The old house was used for storage of grain and straw.
- 1944
- Kenneth started to clean the house out so when he proposed to Edna they would have a house to live in as newlyweds.
- 1944
- December: Kenneth and Edna moved into their Greenvale home. Story: While Kenneth was cleaning out the house getting it ready to live in he decided that the full 1 ½ foot wide stair case would pose a problem. Kenneth attended a home that was being destroyed and purchased the wide staircase that is still in the house today. The villagers had never met Edna and the talk of the town was that Kenneth had purchased such a wide mouth staircase because Edna was a rather large woman and would need the width to get her into the upstairs. Imagine the surprise on the gossip faces in December when Kenneth carried his new bride over the threshold and her, a mere feather under the weight of a 100 lb sack of potatoes. Kenneth had put a floor furnace in the basement and without heat exchangers, he figured the wide staircase would allow the heat to the upstairs.
- 1950
- Edna gave birth to their first child named Marjorie. (1950-1975)
- 1953
- Edna and Kenneth had another girl and named her Maureen.

- 1968
- Russel passed away and Mina moved into town. (Charlottetown)
- 1971
- The four acres plus the house were sold to Lesley (Les) and Mae Blanchard from Ontario who also had their daughter Yvonne living at home. Story: A big old Horse Chestnut tree lived at the front door of the old house and Les had nearly had the tree fallen when Barbara knee high to a grasshopper marched down from the new White's house with hands on hips letting Mr Blanchard know just how hard her daddy worked to get the bee honey out a that old tree. It was said the tree was larger than the house.
- 1981
- The old home started to change hands again, losing a few years of records here and there.
- 1990
- The old Greenvale home was sold again, to a Steven Weeks of P.E.I. Steven built in a downstairs bathroom and added an out building I call the North Builtmore.
